How long will this take to read?

This page will take less than 10 minutes to read if you don't click (which is preferred) )on any of the links. This is normally sufficient to give an overview. If you read all links that this page points to it should take no longer than 30 minutes.

Foreword-

This is an effort to impove my quality of life ( along with those that might be involved ). Before you read further remember - that this is not a solicitation for money or equity in a business.

The long term plan is to put similar minded people together for mutual benefit typically by doing some business. ( though it need not be restricted to a business) Currently bright people are scattered among the population and hence the potential synergetic benefits of working closely are lost. An important difference from several other approaches that aims to improve our quality of life is that, I'm advocating a preferential treatment for bright analytical people. Several other approaches aim at focusing on 'education', 'awareness' etc. While often there is merit in what is being advocated these approaches will either be ignored or be either partially successful or would soon fail after the initial euphoric successful phase. Blame it on average 'human' nature.

As you read further you will see some comments/notes to myself in brackets "<< stuff here>>"- those are reminders to me that I need to improve on what I've written. While I do have a fair grasp of the concepts that I'm trying to put forth - articulating them has been a challenge - given than there are many potential topics where one could digress and due to my innate poor articulation skills.

Who should not read this? (save your precious time! I'm being considerate :) )

You should not read this if:

• If you think you are sufficiently capable that you think it's not worth your while to team up with anyone.
• If you believe that all people are equal in their 'intelligence'.
• If you always equate a business success to an 'idea'.

What is a better quality of life? (or what am I aiming for. Note - these are goals, not promises)

• Having to work lesser ( say a 2 day work week). If you are rich this may not hold much appeal.
• More money for scientific/technical research. (even the richest person IMNHO should be concerned by the fact that certain areas of scientific/technical research are severaly underfunded)
• Minimizing several everyday mundane activities - cooking, paying bills, grocery shopping. Again If you are already rich this may not hold much appeal.
• Better health

Why a business?

Let me more specific - there has to be a means to earn a living (or survive safely and happily). Many people who put forth a philosophy/idea which is supposed to better the quality of life overlook this fact. Do they expect potential adherants to come up with a lot of time/effort/money towards the realization of a goal when these potential adherants work full time? Unless the potential adherants have saved a substantial amount of money ( that means you have to be either super smart to earn a lot, or old enough to have saved a lot) this is not possible. Hence the success of the philosophy/idea considerably rest on taking into account of how the potential adherants will earn a living. Once a mechanism for earning (or survive safely and happily) is in place then it's way more easier as a group to take steps towards realization of the goal.

What business are you going to do? (or what is your business plan?)

It’s premature to work out the details at this stage.

 The issue of what business/venture is to be done is a secondary problem. The biggest issue at this stage ( and later) would be finding appropriate partners with the traits/beliefs mentioned here (The most important trait being  that they realise the mutual benefit of working cooperatively rather than solitarily) That is the primary reason this is being written. If no partners are found I simply wouldn’t proceed to figure out what specific business/venture is to be done. Further one of the first goals of  the people who come together ( if they do )  would be to identify what business/venture is to be done. The specifics of the business/venture are premature to be worked out at this stage.

On a side note - if I did have a complete business plan, would you be interested? probably no :) So why should I come up with a plan that most will shoot it down anyway? I'd rather involve you in the planning so that you are commited.

What is the broad plan ?

It could be loosely (nothing is set in stone) along these lines:

• You can start by joining this online group ( oh no, not another online group! )at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freethinkerventure so that we can co-ordinate our activities. Suggestions are welcome if you know of a better way. An interview process should be in place to determine membership based on 'intelligence'. (I have to work out this. For now please join the group.)
• Engage in an activity that builds trust and familiarity. Choose any method of your liking to do that. This is the most important step. My suggestion is to engage in the exchange of goods and services. I have personally done this (in small ways) in the past with complete strangers, so I know it 'works'. If you give it some thought - aren't most people we trust introduced to us in a similar manner? While most of it is done inadvertantly, I'm advocating that one does it consciously here. Think of stuff that you may need or have to offer - examples are: taxes, employment, odd jobs (handy man, dog walking), web site making and programming, rentals, purchase and selling of property.
• The group will decide on a hierarchy and a rating. ( see section on rating for more details)
• The group may decide to pool in funds/expertise. ( the temptation to give a lot of power to a big contributor who lack the traits must be avoided at all costs. If necessary his offer should be refused)
• Start a ( profit) venture by designating a few people to work full time on it, while others would fund it.( or a combination of both). If most people are not rich (like me) then a larger no. of individuals would be required to lower the risk.  The people who are designated to work full time will be people who do not have much to loose incase things fails. ( for example people who are comfortable financially, people who are retired, people who are unemployed ). Incase they  are people who could loose out financially ( for example people with full time jobs) if the venture is a failure a mechanism must  be in place that would ensure that they earn a living till they get back to a full time job.<<work out some math here>>

  Etc…

Remember many nitty-gritties will have to be put together by the team. My role at this stage is only to provide an initiative << use some other term here>> to bring sufficient capable people together .

Aren’t/Isn’t there such efforts already?

Miscellenous FAQ:

Why don't I start a business and then involve others?

Yes that's certainly a possibility. My current situation does not allow me to venture into anything that is high risk. I mostly work full time on contracts (with occasional weeks in a year without work) and brings in a steady income. It would be foolish of me to forgo that steady income by trying things that may not work. However I may try low risk ventures. if these succeed you are welcome to join it.

Why am I even looking for partners?

Because I'm not capable of pulling it all together on my own. If I were that capable I will not even be putting up this page.

What are the chances that you will find someone using this approach (i.e by having a web page such as this) ?

Near nill. Usually practical busy capable people don't have the time to read web pages such as these. They find partners among people with whom they have dealt with in the past. (ex-classmates, ex-collegues, siblings, cousins) etc.

Ofcourse I don't think that the chance is zero. Hence this web page.
